From Judith, The Yorkshire Tortoise
The grouse shooting season starts on August 12th and continues until December. If there is any sign of a shoot, or land management in progress, please letterbox in a different area in order to avoid attention being drawn to our activities.
It is good to see that boxes are still being visited. The last box I went to had been visited in April and June this year! I must thank all those trying to keep boxes dry. Many of the boxes have now been out for over 13 years and I am amazed so many of them are still in good condition.
Message from The Wild Woman and Lily
We have introduced a Yorkshire Letterboxing badge in recognition of Letterboxing in the Yorkshire Area. Thanks to Judith & Nigel and all those who have put out and visited the boxes over recent years. This is a 35mm metal and enamel pin badge.
The badge will be available to anyone who has 101 Yorkshire Letterbox Stamps from boxes visited, planted, cuckoos, Wanderers, etc.
To cover the costs, the price will be £2:00 for each badge required and will be available initially at the Meet. After then badges will be available at £2:00 each plus P&P which is currently £1:10 for up to 4 badges.

A couple of questions received:
Q)Is it possible to publish letterbox sites in order?
A) Go to http://roydmoor.com/chklst.html for a list of all known boxes, past & present.
For current boxes in Grid Ref order: this list is not on the internet yet.
Q) What is a Smout Hole (no 54) or Intake (no 127)
A) I didn't know what a Smout Hole was myself, but you can find it and other Yorkshire Folk talk at this site.
The Long Distance Acorn Box is a deleted box, but I've been asked for the clue as another Letterbox clue is based on that one. It's now on the Clue page.
Bronja asked if I could put the following on the page: "The wild women of Nottinghamshire and Lily the Lab put out a new permanent Christmas Box on Clock Change Day (29/10/05). The box can be linked with Best Friends for a good seasonal walk. We hope you enjoy the views."
There are 7 or 8 new parasites out on the moors, along with new travellers, cuckoos and a new series of boxes. The Farndale Daffodil is now a quiet box. You need to contact a Tortoise to find it.
What is a Parasite/cuckoo/traveller? I wasn't too sure of the differeces myself until I read Judith's definitions:
Cuckoo Box- Cuckoo boxes are found inside a normal letterbox. If you are visiting another letterbox shortly, take the cuckoo's visitors book and stamp with you. When you reach the next letterbox, stamp the cuckoo's stamp into the static box and put a stamp of the letterbox you have found into the cuckoo's visitors book. Please do not take the wrong book/stap by mistake.
Wanderers-Wandering boxes are boxes that are hidden close to a static box. The clue is mentioned in the back of the static visitor's book. These boxes move, now and again, but are only moved by their owners.
Personal Travellers-Travelling boxes are carried by their owners. As any letterboxer you meet if they carry one.
Parasite-Parasites are similar to cuckoo boxes in that they move from box to box. The difference is that they move from Letterboxer to Letterboxer, not plated out in the wild. They are automatically passed on.
Quiet Boxes-These are letterboxes which are listed on the cluelist but whose clues are not publcaly available, but passed on by word of mouth.
Bonus Box-A static box, usually attached to a series, whose clue can only be found in the back of the visitor's book in the host series box.
Personal Stamp-This is the stamp Letterboxers use as a signature. It usually contains the alias they have chosen to use when Letterboxing.
